The Ballerina & the Fighter (Ballerina, #1)Book reviewThe Ballerina & the Fighter by Ursula Sinclair
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Ballerina and the Fighter is a new adult romance dealing both violence and sex. It is book #1 of the Ballerina series.

Maze is a nineteen year old martial arts fighter, he first sets eyes on seventeen year old Ivy whilst they are all on summer vacation. Ivy is with her friend Shelley taking photos on the beach when Maze first sees her and feels that insta-love.

They spend the next two weeks getting to know each other a little and falling in love, but summer ends in a tragedy and Maze heads off to Japan whilst Ivy goes to ballet school.

Their friendship drifts in the next five years until Maze returns to New York for a big fight. He watches Ivy at the ballet and his love for her is instantly rekindled. They now take their relationship to the next intimate level, but Maze is troubled by the Chinese Triads which is his reason to return home.

Maze has a difficult decision to make about the upcoming fight, but an accident for Ivy helps focus his thoughts on the future.

The sporting storyline and the insta-love are popular with readers of this genre. The writing was let down by a need for a good proofread, Shelley was spelt in two different ways on several occasions and there were numerous other niggles with sentence structure and awkward dialogue which could easily be ironed out to support the good storyline.

Book Description

I travel through life dancing.

All I ever wanted to do was dance, as did my best friend. We’d made so many plans together, but one night an explosion changed it all. Only one of us survived, and I promised myself I’d succeed for us both. And I did, until an accident almost ruined my career, but Maze came back into my life when I needed him most. He pulled me out of the depths of my despair. But could I save him now?

I travel through life fighting.

It had always been Ivy; from the first moment I saw her leaping through the air like she had wings to lift her from the ground. But she was my dream, something I wanted more than anything else in my life. I promised myself I would stay away from her. Violence followed me everywhere and I tried to keep her far away from it. She was my point of illumination in the dark tumultuous world I lived in. But I could not stay away from her. Not when I knew she needed me. As much as I needed her. But could she accept me as I am?
