A Perfect Plan (Wiltshire Chronicles, #1)A Perfect Plan by Alyssa Drake
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Perfect Plan is book #1 of the Wiltshire Chronicles regency romantic mystery series.

It opens with a prologue from 1842 and the ruthless murder of Lord Matthew Hastings by an unknown gentleman.

Chapter one begins almost eleven years later. Samantha Hastings is currently residing in the town house of her sister-in-law Wilhelmina, who has been widowed. She asked Sam to come and help her with running the finances of her late husbands house and business. An unusual responsibility for a women of this era, Samantha is not one to conform to society. In fact an invite to Lady Allendale’s ball has her shuddering.

Wilhelmina insists that Sam accompanies her to parties and such, as her chaperone, whilst she is also on the look out for a suitable husband for Sam. At the ball Sam is reacquainted with her brother’s friends, one of whom promised to be her guardian. A task he feels duty bound to uphold, but Benjamin is not thrilled with having to vet future husbands for his friend’s sister. A young chit of a girl he remembers, who no doubt has grown into a plain Jane.

What Benjamin hasn’t considered is that the beauty on the dance floor who has captured his attention is the one and the same younger sister of best friend Edward.

The storyline follows with a pleasant romantic tale fitting with the genre, a couple of times there were unbelievable leaps in action however the mystery adds a good twist. A man thought dead, returns to life, but shadows follow him closely and put the Hastings family in grave danger.

For those who enjoy a regency romance complete with happy ever after ending, be warned, this book ends of a cliff hanger, ready for book #2 to continue the tale.

Book Description

Samantha Hastings lived a quiet, peaceful life on her family’s country estate. With no man to order her around and no stifling society rules to follow, she considered herself blessed. His intention to marry her off to the first available suitor is thwarted when he finds himself falling for Samantha’s unique demeanor. He lights upon the perfect plan; a marriage of convenience, giving him the opportunity to romance Samantha without distraction.

However, when they discover Edward’s disappearance was due to foul play, Benjamin’s perfect plan begins to quickly unravel. Now, Samantha is in more danger than either of them realized and Benjamin is running out of time.

About the author

Alyssa Drake

Award winning author Alyssa Drake has been creating stories since she could read, preferring to construct her own bedtime tales instead of reading the titles in her bookshelves. Enraptured with all types of writing, Alyssa has tried her hand at short stories, collaborations and poetry. However, her first love has always been books. She thoroughly enjoys strong heroines and often laughs aloud when visualizing conversations between her characters.

Alyssa graduated from the University of the Pacific, with a B.S. in business and a concentration in French literature. Currently she resides in Northern California with her blended family, where she works full-time at a chocolate factory.

She believes everyone is motivated by love of someone or something. One of her favorite diversions is fabricating stories about strangers surrounding her on public transportation. Alyssa can often be found madly scribbling notes on a train or daydreaming out the window as the scenery whips past.

An Imperfect Engagement, Alyssa’ sophomore novel, is the follow-up to her debut novel, A Perfect Plan (which won Obsessed by Book’s 2016 Indie Award for Best Historical Read). Both novels are historical romantic suspense (love & murder in 1850’s England).

THE BALLERINA AND THE FIGHTER by Ursula Sinclair #NA Sports #Romance #WeekendBlogShare

The Ballerina & the Fighter (Ballerina, #1)Book reviewThe Ballerina & the Fighter by Ursula Sinclair
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Ballerina and the Fighter is a new adult romance dealing both violence and sex. It is book #1 of the Ballerina series.

Maze is a nineteen year old martial arts fighter, he first sets eyes on seventeen year old Ivy whilst they are all on summer vacation. Ivy is with her friend Shelley taking photos on the beach when Maze first sees her and feels that insta-love.

They spend the next two weeks getting to know each other a little and falling in love, but summer ends in a tragedy and Maze heads off to Japan whilst Ivy goes to ballet school.

Their friendship drifts in the next five years until Maze returns to New York for a big fight. He watches Ivy at the ballet and his love for her is instantly rekindled. They now take their relationship to the next intimate level, but Maze is troubled by the Chinese Triads which is his reason to return home.

Maze has a difficult decision to make about the upcoming fight, but an accident for Ivy helps focus his thoughts on the future.

The sporting storyline and the insta-love are popular with readers of this genre. The writing was let down by a need for a good proofread, Shelley was spelt in two different ways on several occasions and there were numerous other niggles with sentence structure and awkward dialogue which could easily be ironed out to support the good storyline.

I travel through life dancing.

All I ever wanted to do was dance, as did my best friend. We’d made so many plans together, but one night an explosion changed it all. I travel through life fighting.

It had always been Ivy; from the first moment I saw her leaping through the air like she had wings to lift her from the ground. But she was my dream, something I wanted more than anything else in my life. I promised myself I would stay away from her. Violence followed me everywhere and I tried to keep her far away from it. She was my point of illumination in the dark tumultuous world I lived in. But I could not stay away from her. Not when I knew she needed me. As much as I needed her. But could she accept me as I am?

THE PATH OF SILENCE by Edita A Petrick @EditaBoni Murder #Mystery @ReadReviewRoom @tmsanders2014

The Path of SilenceThe Path of Silence by Edita A. Petrick
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Path Of Silence is a police crime mystery set in Baltimore. Meg Stanton is a single mother and a cold case homicide cop. The book opens with a late night stop at a 7-Eleven for Meg and her partner, when they return to their car they find it covered by a body with an exploded chest.

The victim has 10 different fake ID’s on him and has been a missing person for the last 4 years. Cause of death – an exploding pace-maker. A second victim explodes in the private hotel room of a top US banker and Meg is forced to face a man she’s been hiding from for ten years. Meg and Ken soon find themselves on the path of a serial killer who can inflict death at the flick of a switch.

When the FBI are called in to help solve the case Meg’s home-life starts to collapse, the man who walked out of her life, now faces her across a briefing room. Forcing herself to focus on the job, they chase a possible money laundering ring with fingers deep in political circles.

This book has a good opening setting and a well paced story follows, I liked Meg and her feisty approach, this book touches on family relationships and there’s a chance of romance too. A few red herrings and twists lead to the identity of the cold blooded killer.
