The Little Café in Copenhagen by Jules Wake, writing as Julie Caplin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Little Café In Copenhagen is a romantic comedy.
Kate Sinclair works for a top London PR agency. Disappointed that she was over-looked for a promotion, Kate jumps at the chance to win a prestigious contract with a Danish entrepreneur. Lars Wilder is looking for a winning campaign to ‘bring the heart of Hygge to the UK’.
Wanting Kate to fully understand the concept of Hygge (taking pleasure from the simple things in life), Lars invites her to bring six journalists on a five day, all expenses paid, trip to Copenhagen. As the trip unfolds the author teases the reader by slowly revealing more about each journalist whilst inviting us along on a mini tour of Denmark’s capital. I enjoyed the ‘feel good’ nature and friendliness which oozed from the Danish characters, particularly Eva, Lars’s mother.
Back in England, plans to open a new Danish department store go ahead and Kate hopes that her journalists were all impressed enough to give some much needed publicity to the store’s Hygge concepts. Expected highs and lows of the romance genre add tension and delights to the storyline, as the tale builds to a grand finale.
Recommended for readers who enjoy light contemporary romances and perhaps those with an interest in Hygge.

Welcome to the little cafe in Copenhagen where the smell of cinnamon fills the air and the hot chocolate is as smooth as silk.
Publicist Kate Sinclair’s life in London is everything she thought she wanted: success, glamour and a charming boyfriend. Until that boyfriend goes behind her back and snatches a much sought-after promotion from her. Heartbroken and questioning everything, Kate needs to escape.
Leaving behind rush hour and late nights in the office for a city break in beautiful Copenhagen, Kate discovers how to live life ‘the Danish way’. From candles and cosy nights in to the easy smiles of tall, gorgeous Vikings and eating your body weight in pastries (ok, that’s just her), the city offers her a new perspective.
Can the secrets of hygge and happiness lead her to her own happily-ever-after?

Jules’ earliest known declaration that she planned to be a writer came at the age of ten. Unfortunately the urge to actually get her backside into gear and write a book didn’t revisit her for quite some time after that. After a twenty year career in the glamorous world of PR, working on luxury brands, she switched profession to give her more time and energy to write. Her debut novel, Talk to Me, was published by Choc Lit in 2014, and her second, From Italy With Love, published by HarperImpulse was released earlier this year in May and reached the top of the Amazon Kindle Charts. Her third novel, From Paris With Love This Christmas, published by HarperImpulse came out last October. Her next book Escape to the Riviera will be published by Avon in June this year.
