Book Review: Thicker Than Water by Georgia Rose

Thicker Than Water is the last book in the The Grayson Trilogy. I read the first book, a Single Step, and enjoyed it. I had not read the second book before accepting this one to review, but I took the advice of the author and purchased it.

Georgia Rose is quickly becoming the queen of romantic adventure. All of the characters that her readers have come to know are back, along with some great, semi-explicit sex, and the gradual revealing of answers to questions left from the previous two books: where did Emma spend her childhood? Who are her real parents? Who saved Emma, Grace, and the children in the attack on the manor? Can the Poltzin organization be eliminated without putting Emma, Trent or any of the other characters in imminent danger?

In Thicker Than Water, Emma and Trent are married and life has settled into a calming routine compared to the tension and turmoil of Before the Dawn (book two). Trent and Cavendish are still trying to close down the Polzin organization, which requires weeks away for both of them. Returning home from one of these trips, Trent is overjoyed to find that Emma is pregnant. For Emma, the emotion is not so much joy as the reemergence of the pain she felt when she lost her first child, pain that drove her to take the job as the manager of the horses and stables at the Melton Estate. Her fear that she will lose this second child can paralyze her.

Told mainly from Emma’s point of view, the reader becomes immersed in her emotions and the feelings she has for Trent and the entire staff of the estate. This book has more romance and more discussion of emotional turmoil than book two, and the reader has to wait a bit for the action because of it.   As the reader becomes engrossed in the day to day events of Emma’s life, the narrative slows, but the author more than makes up for it in the last third of the book. I can’t say more without giving much of the plot away!

I am a stickler for all things medical (and the wife of an obstetrician) and found a few of holes in the description of Emma’s birth of her baby. Emma’s water never broke and the umbilical cord needs to be tied in two places to prevent bleeding from one end or another. Most important, after the baby is born, there is no description of the delivery of the placenta, which takes anywhere from five to thirty minutes. Emma starts nursing her baby with breast milk right after the delivery. Breast milk often takes a week to come in; the first product of the breast is colostrum.

Having said that, I doubt most readers would notice these gaps, and as I said, I am probably being a bit fanatical about these details. The story is very well written, develops smoothly, and fans of romantic adventure will love this book. It is a well-done finish for this trilogy, and I know the readers will be sad to say good-by to Emma, Trent and the other characters.

Jessie has been reading Before The Dawn and Thicker than Water by Georgia Rose from the Grayson Trilogy

Putting down the third book and wiping away tears I mulled things over, trying to pin point just what it was that pulled me in.

What was it that had me reading the last two books of this trilogy in a marathon afternoon into evening read?

It wasn’t the flowery language or exquisitely turned phrases. In fact the language of this book is very simple. Coffee is made, horses are cared for, the thoughts in Grayson’s head are just like thoughts that might be in mine.

Just, normal – stuff.

And I think that was it, what I thought at first was over simplified writing, that was the key. Because when everything goes decidedly not normal, whether for good (the tall, dark, handsome, possessive man, yeah, it totally goes there) bad ( I won’t ruin anything but let’s just say there are baddies and they’ve got guns) or sometimes crazy (again, no spoilers here, but when I tried to tell my husband what was going on and why I couldn’t talk to him even though he’d been at work for the last 12 hours, he raised his eyebrows and told me I read “weird stuff”), it was still believable.

I’d already been riding along in Grayson’s life, for all the everyday mundane things. So when the not so everyday, bordering on crazy, happened, her reactions didn’t surprise me. Of course she did that, of course it was believable (even if when you tell your husband in the kitchen after midnight it’s so not) and of course I was so emotionally involved.

Buckets of tears involved.

Would I recommend it? I’d call this trilogy a tear soaked, romantic adventure. If that kind of thing is your style go pick them up – all of them. They only get better as they go!

Wendy chose to read and review Thicker Than Water by Georgia Rose

This is the third book of the Grayson Trilogy. Again, the author is very honest in the beginning of the book that you must read the trilogy in order as she does not summarize the first or second book in the third book. Hey, it’s a trilogy that how it is supposed to be read.

So, I picked up this book last night to start to read a few chapters, but I COULD NOT put it down, and I finished the whole book into the late night hours. So, if this review does not make sense, I apologize, because I am currently suffering from a book hangover. Okay, lady, just get to the review, already! Alright, alright, stop screaming at me! Voices, do I hear voices?

So, in book number three, we are back with Grayson and Trent on Melton Manor continuing on with their romance and daily lives. Suddenly, Trent and Cavendish are summoned to their work headquarters. Trent and Cavendish return to the Manor with two agents. The two agents are interested in Grayson’s past life and mysterious item they received addressed to Grayson that was sent to corporate headquarters in her name.

With the trouble from book two still brewing, something bad is about to happen, but will Grayson and Trent be able to survive it?

Thicker Than Water is the perfect ending to this trilogy. It was full of twists, turns, surprises, and answers! I admit, I cried at the end of this book as it was such an emotionally charged book.

If you remember the ending of the TV show, Friends, you were sorry to see it end but you knew it was okay because all is as it should be. That is how this book was for me.

This is one of my all time favorite trilogies and I highly recommend it.

A Single Step by Georgia Rose

A Single Step (Book 1 of The Grayson Trilogy)A Single Step by Georgia Rose

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Single Step is a romantic suspense and book 1 of The Grayson trilogy. Emma Grayson is getting her life slowly back together after the tragic death of her child. She applies for a new job as a stable manager at Melton Manor for Lord Cavendish in a positive move forward with her life.

Everyone is very helpful and the job and the facilities are very generous, all except the Estate Manager Trent who is cold and domineering. Emma wasn’t his first choice of person for the job and he makes her feel like an incapable female. His manor brings out the feisty side in Emma even more.

After a fall from a horse Emma is forced to accept help from Trent and when it’s time for him to leave she realises she doesn’t want him to go, is the brick wall around her heart coming down brick by brick? Then just when you think you know what’s going to happen, Wham! the story has a sinister turn.

I really wasn’t sure about this story, it has a very slow start and it took a long time for me to warm to the plot and the characters, but then suddenly the action began when Emma fell from her horse and the book got my attention to the very end. There’s no cliff hanger so I don’t know what to expect in the next book in the series, but I’m intrigued enough to add it to my TBR list.
