Daisy’s Review

Review:
I recently bought Shadows of the Past by the author Carmen Stephanescu. The story touched me deeply. The spell of devotion from love in the past pushing forward through many decades to give hope to love in the future is a very strong one. The author develops this theme beautifully. I enjoyed all the elements of magic in this story a great deal and I’m sure you will too.
Book Description
When Anne and Neil leave on a one-week holiday hoping to reconcile after a two-year separation, little do they know that destiny has other plans for them. Their discovery of human bones and a bejeweled cross in the hollow of a tree open the door to the supernatural realm and the anguished life of Genevieve, a nun from medieval England.
Can Anne save her relationship and help Genevieve her eternal rest?
The twists and turns in this paranormal tale keep the reader guessing up to the end and weave themselves together into a quest to rekindle love.

Where is your home town?

Braila is my home town. Situated on the banks of the river Danube, in Romania, East Europe. Funny thing is that many people know my country better as Dracula’s country.

How long have you been writing romance?

Well, difficult to say. Starting with 2002 when I wrote Shadows of the Past. But writing, in general, started way back. With poetry in fact.

What is your favourite sub-genre of romance?

Paranormal. No vampires, though. Ghosts, reincarnation, past life regression and everything connected to these.

Why are Anne and Neil taking a break?

Human weakness leads Neil in the arms of Anne’s associate and friend, Gillian, or so things seem at first. A 2 year separation follows his onetime mistake.

What do they discover whilst out for a walk?

A gruesome discovery – a bejewelled cross and human bones in the hollow of an old oak tree.

Where and in what era do they suddenly find themselves?

The discovery has a strong connection with events that happened several hundred years before, in Middle Ages England.

From whom does Genevieve need saving?

Genevieve seeks salvation from the wicked Abbess, Sister Clementa, who is a witch.

Is Anne ever in danger herself from the spirits?

The Abbess’s ghost endangers both Anne and Neil.

Tell us what you are working on at the moment.

I submitted another paranormal, light mystery this time, to the publisher and am waiting for the reply.

I already signed the contract with the same publishing house, Wild Child Publishing, for another paranormal. A historical one. Dracula’s Mistress. I see you smiling. Yes, a native of his country can’t resist the temptation to write about him.

Where can readers find out more about you?

Rosie’s Good Read Collections; Historical Adventures

Welcome to “Rosie’s Good read Collections”, I’ve put together the books I’ve read into subject headings that I think the books belong to, for you to browse.

896634In the middle years of the ninth-century, the fierce Danes stormed onto British soil, hungry for spoils and conquest. Kingdom after kingdom fell to the ruthless invaders until but one realm remained. And suddenly the fate of all England—and the course of history—depended upon one man, one king. From New York Times bestselling storyteller Bernard Cornwell comes a rousing epic adventure of courage, treachery, duty, devotion, majesty, love, and battle as seen through the eyes of a young warrior who straddled two worlds. 18581334Imagine wandering through an ancient landscape wrought in earth and stone, exploring the sacred sites of peoples long ago and far away in time and history. The mounds and barrows whisper legends of heroes and magic, and painted walls sing of saints and miracles. Now imagine that the lens of the camera captures a magical light in soft blues and misty greens and gold. A light that seems to have no cause in physical reality. What would you do? If you were open to the possibility of deeper realities, perhaps you would wish to explore this strange phenomenon…something two people came to know as sacred chromatography. The Initiate is the story of just such a journey beyond the realms of our accustomed normality. It is a factual tale told in a fictional manner. In just such a way did the Bards of old hide in the legends and deeds of heroes those deeper truths for those who had eyes to see and ears to hear. As the veils thin and waver, time shifts and the present is peopled with the shadowy figures of the past, weaving their tales through a quest for understanding and opening wide the doors of perception for those who seek to see beyond the surface of reality. Shadows of the past by Carmen Stefanescu

Shadows of the PastShadows of the Past by Carmen Stefanescu

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A clever tale woven between 2 times zones. The story is set in England and follows the sad story of a Nun in the 15th Century. Then we move to the modern-day and are caught up with 2 hikers who get lost in a forest that has an evil feel about it. Shadows from the past swirl around the couple until they stumble across help from a modern-day white witch and solve the mysteries of the past.

Guest author Carmen Stefanescu

Today my guest is Carmen Stefanescu, please join me in welcoming her to the blog and learning a little more about this author.

1) Tell me your name
Carmen Stefanescu
2) Where do you live?
Romania, better known as Dracula’s country, in Eastern Europe.
3)When did you start writing?
I started writing short satirical poems as a student. Then short stories. All were in my native tongue Romanian, as I am not a native English speaker. I lived all my life in Romania, known to many as Dracula’s country. After the fall of dictatorship in 1989, things changed a bit and the access to the Internet and the opening to the world helped me start publishing. Poems in English, first. Some of them were selected for a collection of contemporary English poems, Muse Whispers, and were published in 2001 and 2002. Now novels.

4)What type of books do you like writing the most?
Paranormal. I am fond of ghosts, reincarnation, past lives and karmic retribution. Not vampires even if I live in Dracula’s country. I believe that our soul is immortal. Should it be my fear of the eternity of nothingness? May be! I can’t really say.

5)Pass on 3 tips about writing or publishing.
1-Keep your writing clear and coherent, and avoid pretentious or overly formal language.
2-Ask someone else to read your writing and critique it.
3- Select the strongest nouns and verbs before you select adjectives and adverbs.
And above all: Read! Write! Read and write!
6)What was the last book that you read? How would you rate it?
The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin. 5 stars.
7)Now choose just one of your books and add a link to it.
Shadows of the Past.
