My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Three Point Five Stars

Saved by the Firefighter is book #6 in the Templeton Cove series of Harlequin romances set in the UK and can be read as a stand alone book.

Izzy Cooper is a photographer, she lives in the coastal town of Templeton. Three months ago her brother died in a terrible explosion in the garage where he worked and Izzy is grieving badly. Lashing out needing someone to blame for the pain she feels, Izzy places her anger firmly at the foot on Trent Palmer, town firefighter.

Trent Palmer would do anything to ease Izzy’s pain, he truly knows where her feelings lie, he’s been there before and Izzy’s brother was his best friend too. Robbie had been killed before the fire took over but he understands Izzy’s grieving and offers her a shoulder to cry on, if only she’d accept it.

The pair must work together for a charity calendar for a local girl who needs treatment in America and the sexual tension between the pair sizzles. Their relationship blows hot and cold with both Izzy and Trent showing traits of childish petulance. Can they ever trust each other enough to put the past behind them and make it together in the future?

This is a cosy romance with plenty of anger from both sides which leads to a tempestuous relationship, I think there was room to tweak the writing for a wider range of emotions showing a deeper passion and devotion to each other.

How can she forgive him for what he didn’t do?

Photographer Izzy Cooper feels as frozen as her pictures. Trent Palmer might be the hottest firefighter in Templeton Cove, but she can never face him again. Not after he failed to save her brother. But when they’re forced together by a calendar shoot, the sparks between them are undeniable.

Izzy knows it’s not fair to blame Trent for the tragedy, but opening herself up to loss again isn’t something she’s prepared to do, no matter how determined Trent is to show her that pain is part of life and that love—their love—can make any suffering bearable.

The security alarm chimed. Someone had stepped inside the studio. Exhaling a heavy breath, Izzy pulled back her shoulders, lifted her head and forced a smile.

“Hi, how can I…” Her heart stopped. Trent Palmer stood just inside the door. “Why are you here?”

His dark green gaze bored relentlessly into hers, his strong jaw set as he reached behind him and shut the door. “I came by to see how you’re doing.”

Traitorous attraction skittered over the surface of her skin before Izzy turned and strode toward the corner she used for staging portrait shots. The fluffy bunnies, huge furry dice and toys she’d used to relax a toddler earlier now felt macabre.

She spun around, clutching a teddy bear. “The same as I was doing yesterday and the day before. I told you I don’t want to see you. I don’t ever want to see you. Why do you keep coming back?”

He came closer, his gaze locked on hers. “You have to talk to me. I was Robbie’s friend. There was nothing—”

“You could do. Fine. I get it, but why do you feel the need to keep coming in here and checking up on me? What do you want me to do? Dance in the street? Kick up my heels at the fairground? God, just leave me alone.”

“There’s a beach party tonight. I want you to come with me.”

She stared. Why him? Why would a man she really liked—a damn firefighter—have to pursue her like she was someone worth pursuing? “No.”

He looked at the equipment covering the desk alongside him. He lifted and replaced a camera, the hunch of his wide shoulders indicating his discomfort. Izzy hated that she drew no satisfaction from that…only sadness.

THE LOOK OF LOVE #1 The San Francisco Sullivans by @bellaandre #Romance #WeekendBlogShare

The Look of Love (San Francisco Sullivans, #1; The Sullivans, #1)The Look of Love by Bella Andre
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Look Of Love is book #1 of the San Francisco Sullivans a series of stand alone hot romances each book taking on the story of one of the eight siblings. There are more books available in the Sullivan series which will be about other relatives sharing the family name.

In this book we are quickly told about the brother’s and sisters of Chase Sullivan. Chase is a photographer, he has siblings whose careers span acting, winery, baseball, fast cars, dance and books.
Chase heads out on a stormy night after celebrating his mother’s birthday, driving to Napa Valley to prepare for an early photo shoot.

He stops to help a bedraggled female who has driven her car into a ditch. Chloe is running from an attack by her ex-husband and is distrustful of Chase’s offer of a dry bed for the night, believing that he will expect payment in sexual favours, but she can’t ignore how handsome he is.

Chase is instantly attracted to Chloe but knows how to behave with a frightened woman, well almost. With her car towed away Chase persuades Chloe to stay in Napa at the guest house with him for a few days whilst he completes the photo shoot, she even helps out with the wardrobe malfunctions. With Chase saying and doing all the right things Chloe lets down her guard and steamy passion sparks from the pages.

This is a fast paced book with the main story-line taking place in less than a week and a good dose of insta-love. Strong good looking characters and well written hot love scenes make this a good start to the series.

Book Description

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is–until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love–and protect–her, but will she let him?

Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her–and every sinfully sweet caress–as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart. (love story, contemporary romance, alpha males, heroes, sexy romance, bad boys, falling in love).

Sweet Reunion (Hope Falls, #1)Sweet Reunion by Melanie Shawn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book Description:

For Amanda Jacobs, dealing with the pain of losing her beloved Dad is the toughest thing she’s ever gone through, and it comes with a lot of complications, as well – like taking over the family business, Mountain Ridge Outdoor Adventures. It makes her miss the simplicity of being a teenager, when she was surrounded by her amazing friends, The Fabulous Four, and she was madly in love with her Dad’s right hand man, Justin Barnes. His sexy smiles and deep brown eyes had made her heart race in a way she’s never felt before or since. When the Fabulous Four unexpectedly show up on her doorstep to support her through this complicated time, things seem to be looking up for Amanda. But that’s not the only surprise visit in store for her…

Justin Barnes left Hope Falls ten years ago, in the dead of night, and didn’t think he’d ever set foot there again. That was just fine with him, except for one little complication: Amanda Jacobs. He had fallen in love with her unruly blonde curls and sparkling sapphire eyes, but she had been a teenager then, five years younger than he – too young for him to act on his attraction. Still, he’d missed her every single day of those ten years. When Justin receives a phone call that his former mentor has passed away, he knows he has to return to Hope Falls. Justin just has one question – will the girl that once adored him have grown into a woman that can’t stand him? Or will she still be the only thing in the world that feels like home?

My Review:

Sweet Reunion is a sexy romance set in Hope Falls Northern California. Amanda Jacob’s father has recently died and she’s at a loss as to how to cope. Her three loyal childhood friends return to make up the Fabulous Four just when she needs their support for the reading of the will and the memorial service.

Justin Barnes is on his way back to Hope Falls too, he’s also been asked to arrive for the reading of the will. Ten years ago he left after seventeen year old Amanda declared her love for him. Believing it to be a teenage crush and a love which would never last Justine left overnight, breaking Amanda’s heart.

Now Parker Jacob’s has one last hope to make amends for his past actions, but has Amanda moved on? Could she ever start to trust a man who might once more be gone by morning?

This is book one of a series which will continue with romantic adventures for others who make up the Fabulous Four and is a feel good romantic read for those who like hot lovers and a happy ever after ending.

#NewRelease THE BOOKSHOP ON AUTUMN LANE by @CynthiaTennent #RomCom #TuesdayBookBlog

The Bookshop on Autumn Lane (Truhart #3)The Bookshop on Autumn Lane by Cynthia Tennent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Bookshop on Autumn Lane is a fun #RomCom set in Truhart, Michigan. It opens with some of the inhabitants of Truhart waking Trudy from her sleep in her 1973 VW Beetle, concerned she is a vagrant of some sort. Instead they find the new owner of “Books From The Heart”.

Trudy has been left the shop by her namesake Gertrude, but instead of it being a delicious gift Trudy sees it as a millstone around her neck. Its only saving grace being that she might be able to sell it to fund her travel dreams.

It soon becomes apparent that Gertrude senior got a little carried away with her book obsession and Trudy accepts the help of visiting English Professor Kit Darlington to sort and clear the books. Kit’s English mannerisms are a hit with the local Truhart ladies who insist on calling him “My Lord” and he soon becomes more than friends with Trudy, but what is Kit hiding from? Will Trudy ever be able to sell the shop and make her travel dreams come true?

This was a fun read, I would be in heaven if a relative of mine left me a shop packed with books, I would want to read the lot. I loved all the parts for Lulu the VW Beetle, I’ve always been a fan ever since the TV days of “Herbie”. For animal lovers their is a lovely role for Moby, a loyal friend to Trudy and the amusing stereotype of Kit and the English ways and sayings were well presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

The Way You Look Tonight (Seattle Sullivans, #2; The Sullivans, #10)The Way You Look Tonight by Bella Andre
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Way You Look Tonight is a hot contemporary romance and book #2 of the Seattle Sullivans. Easily a stand alone book.

Rafe Sullivan is a PI. The big dollar cases are all marriage related, but the emotional strain of finding so many marriages that fail makes Rafe skeptical of trusting that true love is real. When his real estate sister produces details of the lake house that their family once owned and spent many happy summers at, Rafe is cornered by Mia. She already has plans for their old family home and just needs his signature.

Mia sends Rafe out to his new house and away from the stress of his work and a past experience with an angry husband of one of his clients. When he arrives he finds the place trashed and uninhabitable.

Brooke Jansen spent her childhood summers at her grandparents Washington state lake house and spent many hours with the Sullivans who lived next door. When her Grandparents died they left her the lake house and now Brooke uses it as a base for her chocolate business.

She can’t believe that the new owner of the house next door is her childhood crush, Rafe. She’d heard the Sullivans had sold up years ago. Brooke offers Rafe a place to crash while he does his lake house up, but it soon becomes apparent that Brooke’s crush isn’t over and Rafe certainly likes the women Brooke has grown up to be. Can Rafe let down his guard enough to let Brooke in? Or will be chase her away with his controlling urges?

Good feel-good reading.

Judith has been reading When Darkness Falls by Ellen Chauvet

  • Title: When Darkness Falls
  • Published: 2016
  • Author: Ellen Chauvet

  • Started: Sunday 7th August 2016
  • Finished: Friday 12th August 2016

When Darkness Falls follows Lexi Miles, an American woman living a glamorous lifestyle with her friend Emma in Paris, France. When Emma is horrifically attacked and murdered by vampires, and Lexis’s world is turned upside down as she makes numerous shocking revelations. She meets Etienne, an enigmatic vampire she can’t help but fall in love with. However, betrayal leads her to seek revenge.

When Darkness Falls was definitely an interesting, but short, read for me.

I liked the use of vampire iconography, like vervain and compulsion, elements of vampire tales first introduced to me through The CW’s The Vampire Diaries TV show, the adaptation of the books of the same name by L. J. Smith, which I’m really enjoying.

The frequent use of violence and bloodshed felt genuinely horrific and dark, making the “bad” vampires seem truly monstrous. However, I thought the logic behind the “good” vampires’ ability to resist human blood (by taking an anti-serum) didn’t seem wholly convincing.

I also thought the story was reminiscent of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, but despite the similarities between the two stories, I found nothing wrong with Chauvet’s narrative, and it was an enjoyable vampire storyline.

However, When Darkness Falls is not just a vampire story, it is an erotic vampire story, and that was my main issue.

Furthermore, I understood the link Chauvet created between the feelings of lust and vampire “bloodlust” –connotations of uncontrollable urges, which even traditional Gothic stories included – and I thought this was cleverly done. However, Chauvet takes these connotations and turns them into sex scenes, which just didn’t add anything to the plot, and the explicit sexual language genuinely shocked me.

Excluding the sex scenes, I thought When Darkness Falls was an enjoyable and interesting book (and still a better love story than Twilight!)

Her Enemy At The Altar is a Regency Romance from Harlequin set in England in 1815.

It opens with a London Ballroom scene. Lady Constance Stuart is a gangly redhead and used to being a wallflower at such events. Fearful of his daughter becoming an aged spinster her father recently increased her dowry and the Marquis of Deal proposed marriage to Constance. However the Marquis has a reputation as a scoundrel and humiliates Constance at the ball with his attentions given very obviously to another.

Constance flees to the library to hide her shame, but is interrupted by Aaron Wincanton, who also seeks solitude. The Wincanton and Stuart families have been feuding for three hundred years and Aaron would like peace, he’s also always been attracted to Connie, but close to bankruptcy, Aaron is about to propose to Violet Garfield for the good of his family. Her feisty nature soon has Connie in a compromising embrace with Aaron and they are discovered by gloating family and acquaintances.

One kiss and Connie’s reputation is ruined, the Marquis of Deal refuses to marry her and Aaron feels obliged to offer instant marriage the very next day. As Connie’s father throws her out of the house, she must accept Aaron’s proposal but it doesn’t mean she has to ever like the despicable man.

Not long back from the Napoleonic war, Aaron tries to understand the reasons for the failing family estate, whilst attending his sick father and his new wife. Will he ever be able to tell his wife how he really thinks about her? Or will he have to agree to her wishes for an immediate annulment of the marriage?

This is a quick read and ideal for histfic romance readers.

Today’s team review is from Chris she blogs here

Rosie's Book Review team 1

Chris has been reading Cupid’s Quest by Lori Soard

Romance in a small-town US setting with strong writing and religious themes, this is a sweet love story.

Gracie’s about to lose the nursing home she’s lived and breathed for years, while Brandt’s family farm is failing and his ideas for conversion require money. When both enter the local scavenger hunt to win the cash prize to save their businesses, they get more than they bargained for what with nursing home residents on the loose and their past coming back to haunt them…

The plot was deep and emotional, with the characters well-drawn and relatable. The setting, too, was very well portrayed and the author transported you to the close, occasionally stifling, small town of Cupid’s Crossing. Unfortunately, for me, the strong religious message of the book overshadowed the story too much for my enjoyment. If you like your romance with a heavy dose of God though, this is one for you.
