After the Goode - A Jake Roberts NovelAfter the Goode – A Jake Roberts Novel by Cary Allen Stone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After the Goode is a Jake Roberts detective novel, it follows on from “Mind Over Murder”. Jake is now retired and taking a vacation in Phoenix, Arizona with girlfriend Caitland. They are staying with friends for a few days.

Bobby Goode is a comedian from Phoenix, he’s made it to the big time and is back to do a few shows before heading off to New York. Betty and Donald O’Malley are at Bobby’s comedy show, but Donald isn’t in the mood for comedy, he’s just been made redundant and Bobby’s style of humour doesn’t sit well on Donald.

When a burnt out car is found with a charred body, detective Wynter Williams and team are called in, but there are few leads and the case looks like it’s going cold unless they can find the one clue to lead them to the killer.

This book has taken a turn away from the thriller style of the previous two Jake Robert’s books that I’ve read, this one is more relaxed with just one case to solve. The whole book works around Bobby Goode’s comedian theme with everyone joining in the banter. I would suggest that this will go down best with most American male readers of detective novels.

Mind Over Murder by Cary Allen Stone

Mind Over Murder - A Jake Roberts NovelMind Over Murder – A Jake Roberts Novel by Cary Allen Stone

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Mind Over Murder is the next instalment in the Jake Roberts detective thrillers. It follows five years on from “After The Evil” where we met serial killer Lori Powers. Lori has finally been captured and is being returned from Europe by Interpol ready for her trial. Jake is part of the party at Atlanta airport who are meeting Lori.

Lori has a celebrity following of her case, she’s top of the news broadcasts and a book has even been made of her life. A beautiful woman she causes many men’s heads to turn.

Jared Hamilton has a copy of Lori’s book. He’s a hi-tec savvy genius, a loner, he’s a hacker in his own class and a rule unto himself. With no need for money, no need to work, he craves a life of crime like an adrenalin junky. Well aware that a computer virus could have more power than a nuclear weapon, there are few security systems that Jared cannot breach. Yet even this power is nothing compared to how he feels about murder. Inspired by Lori Powers, Jared plans five murders with one big ultimate death.

A good thriller, I wasn’t sure how the story was going to pan out with Lori however there is enough backstory if you haven’t read the previous book to set the scene. A good pace which kept me interested to the end and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good Deeds Challenge, Year 2, Week 39

Welcome to my second Year of Good Deeds, a challenge I set myself during April 2013. I decided to do at least one Good Deed a day for a whole year, now I am into my second year.

New Good DeedsThis week I’ve been doing the following;

January 11th – Finished reading a very good psychological thriller called Just Two Weeks by Amanda Sinton – Williams ready for a book tour slot with Brook Cottage Books later in February. Helped my Mum out with some forms on her computer.

January 12th – My morning at school, passed on some books for others to read and hand delivered some Thank-you notes.

January 13th – I’m reading I Listened To My Heart by Rosemary Gallagher and really enjoying it, from the cover I thought it was just another romance, but it is so much more. If you love Angels and are interested in fate, it’s a really good read. Picked up litter on my walk.

January 14th – It’s windy and there is plenty of litter to pick up on my daily walks.

January 15th – Today I’m reading a Melissa Foster romance, a book I won, Bursting With Love Another walk and more litter picking.

January 16th – Posted my review for To Eternity by Daisy Banks, a book I read a while ago ready for it’s recent launch, my post goes out on Monday for it. Changed my route for my daily walk and found plenty of litter to pick up. Today I’m reading Motherlove by Thorne Moore which is due out in February.

January 17th – Picked up more litter on my daily walk. I’m reading Mind Over Murder a Jake Roberts thriller by Cary Allen Stone
