A Scandalous Winter Wedding (Mills & Boon Historical) (Matches Made in Scandal, #4)A Scandalous Winter Wedding (Mills & Boon Historical) by Marguerite Kaye

4 stars

A Scandalous Winter Wedding is a Regency romance and is part of the Matches Made In Scandal series. This is the story behind the infamous woman known as The Procurer, someone who can make the impossible, possible.

When Kirstin Blair reads the details of the latest request for her Procurer’s services, she is shocked to see the name of a man she met six years ago. Someone who has frequently filled her mind.

Cameron Dunbar is desperate for help; his niece has gone missing and the need to keep the details secret have lead him to The Procurer, because of her reputation for outstanding discretion. When Kirstin decides to take this case, she keeps her identity as its founder a secret. To Cameron, she is just a woman he met six years ago, who happens to work for the infamous Procurer. Together they follow clues to the missing girl. But their joint past threatens their business relationship, while Kirstin hides a deeper secret from Cameron.

The series, so far, has hinted at the story behind The Procurer, and now it’s time to tell her tale. This is an ideal conclusion to a string of stories that have taken romance and secrets to some of Europe’s well-known cites.

Rosie’s #Bookreview of #Romance From Courtesan To Convenient Wife by @MargueriteKaye

From Courtesan to Convenient Wife (Matches Made in Scandal, #2)From Courtesan to Convenient Wife by Marguerite Kaye

4 stars

From Courtesan To Convenient Wife is a regency style romance set in Paris. It is book #2 of the Matches Made In Scandal series.

The book opens in 1818; a woman known as The Procurer has been asked to find someone who would be willing to play the role of a wife for a short period of time. Lady Sophia Acton has had a fall from grace and is heading towards poverty when The Procurer calls with a fortunate job offer.

In Paris, French wine merchant Jean-Luc Bauduin needs an instant wife. A mysterious woman recently claimed that she had a legal contract of proposed marriage between herself and Jean-Luc; a document he knows nothing about. He hopes that Sophia’s presence will head off an unwanted situation.

The storyline has interesting links to the post-French Revolution era which involved the Reign Of Terror when large numbers of the French nobility were sent to the guillotine. I thought it was a thought-provoking glimpse into a part of history that I knew little about. The romantic nature of France and its people shines through in this book, and it is a lovely addition to the series.

Rosie’s #Bookreview of #Romance From Governess To Countess by @MargueriteKaye #TuesdayBookBlog

From Governess to Countess (Matches Made in Scandal, #1)From Governess to Countess by Marguerite Kaye

4 stars

From Governess To Countess is a regency style romance set in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is book #1 of the Matches Made In Scandal series.

The book opens in London 1815; a woman known as The Procurer has been asked to find a herbalist. Allison Galbraith is currently hiding after being made a scapegoat by those who call themselves doctors, and who disapprove of her herbal remedies. With her confidence and her reputation in pieces, she accepts the Procurer’s job offer.

Count Aleksei Derevenko has requested, ostensibly, a governess for his three young wards; in reality he wants a herbalist, who is unknown to his Russian peers, and who can solve a mystery. He suspects that his brother was poisoned, but with no witnesses, no obvious motive and his brother’s wife dying just days after her husband, it seems like the perfect crime.

Set amongst the palaces and the privileged of a city known as ‘Venice of the North’, this book is filled with ornate architecture and grandeur, but the story also mixes the more simplistic art of apothecary and I enjoyed Allison’s herbalist elements. Whilst working closely with Aleksei a special bond forms almost immediately between them, which neither can deny. But with such differing backgrounds, surely they can never be together?

Recommended for those who enjoy this genre of romance, with a delightful setting giving it a lovely touch.
