Wednesday Wing…..Google+ posts tips on social networking #wwwblogs

Welcome to my new feature called Wednesday Wing where I’ll be passing on

observations, tips and information to readers I’ve made a note of.

Rosie's Notebook

Today I’m passing on a tip about using Google+

Having a presence on Google+ is important for authors/ writers, the whole google search engine is one of the largest and commonly used, so Team Google is a good bet.

If you are trying to get more traffic to your blog, books etc and you have a google+ account then I think it really needs to be set up for PUBLIC sharing.

When I go to share a post on google+ and I get a message, “This post was shared privately”, then I don’t share it and you’ve LOST potential visibility.

Make sure you have the box below your Google+ post showing a GREEN “Public” for who the post is going to if it’s a post about your book/work.

If you blog make sure you are showing the Google+ button for readers to add you to their circles and to the Google+ button to share your post to their own Google+ accounts.

Make your post stand out on Google+

If you add the star asterisk to each side of your post title, when you post those words will come out in bold *Your post title*

Use Hashtags – just like Twitter, don’t forget to add hashtags, google+ picks them up too.

Also, like Twitter, direct your post to a specific person when appropriate. I’m lazy I’ll type in @(for example)rosieamber in my post and as long as that person is in one of my “circles” on Google+, clever old Google+ finds them and changes it to +rosieamber. When I then share my post it immediately adds that person to the share, making sure my post hits the mark.

Use the +1 button on the bottom of friend’s posts to “like” a post.

Use the right hand curved arrow on the bottom of a post to “share” it to your friends.

Build your friendships/ acquaintances as you do on Twitter.

Today I began reading an advanced copy of this book ready for the launch and blog tour. So I thought I’d post ahead with a little information for you about the book.

Here is the pre-release synopsis to wet your appetite;

Rose comes from the capital of the Confederation of Cities where its  citizens live in luxury and the greatest fashion statement of all is  being Altered.  People change everything about the way they look as  often as they do their hairstyle but Rose is different.  Her position of privilege has made her an outcast and led her to suspect that something sinister is happening to the citizens and flees the capital along with a past that imprisons her in search of a fresh start in the Land of the  Unaltered.

Flynn lives in the Land of the Unaltered and hates the capitol and everything it stands for.  So when a spoiled capital girl is assigned to work with him, he wants nothing to do with her and is prepared to make her life  miserable.  But Flynn was not prepared for someone like Rose.  She  doesn’t fit the mould he expected and finds himself strongly attracted to her.  As she continues to surprise and outwit him, they begin to forge a bond that is tested when they discover a secret that could change  everything they know about Land of the Unaltered.

Land of the Unaltered is a Dystopian Romance and is the first instalment of the Unaltered Trilogy.

A 999 year lease

It’s difficult proving that you are the rightful owner of a piece of land that was leased for a period of 999 years, back in the 18th Century! This weekend we have been having family discussions about the matter. Our lovely ancestors leased a piece of land, back then, to the churchyard of Mary Magdalene Church, Bermondsey, London. Since then the paperwork has descended through the family, each new owner of the entitlement goes through a difficult process to prove he or she should be the next recipient of the lease papers and the annual lease fee. Back then £15 a year was a good deal,I’m not so sure the future generations will think the same!

Problems have occurred now that the Church no longer handle the payouts, it’s the local council. Back in the 1950’s there was a small piece of evidence that payment was being refused and legal help was required.

The issue now, that my father-in-law has passed over, and my brother-in-law must prove his right to the entitlement. Yet the council say they have bought the Freehold on the land and they now own it?! A difficult position as we have not sold the land or the freehold. So now we have to delve through files of seriously old paperwork to see if we have a map of the plot of land and a copy of the lease. And trust me, the legal language and spelling in the 1700’s is certainly one for the serious historians.

For me the most exciting end was from a Google search which brought up evidence of a plaque in Mary Magdalene Church bearing names of our ancestors which has now confirmed a tenuous link which I had in the family tree. I now go back as far as the 1730’s! Hip hip hooray!

Pinterest Hacking

In the interests of social media, I have dabbled, all be it very slightly in Pinterest.

I was most surprised to receive multiple notifications of interest in the boards/ pins over the weekend. In fact my e-mail account nearly had heart failure over the numbers. Not having been active on the account for a while I smelt a fish!!!

Upon inspection my account now contained many boards which I had not created nor pinned items to. I deleted all rogue boards, only to have more appear over the next few days. Good old Google search informed me of hackers accessing Pinterest and being responsible for these boards. I have now changed my password and we wait and see. So be warned if this happens to you.
