A Jersey Dreamboat

Where is your home town?

I live in a place called St Ouens, it’s a parish on the north-west of the island of Jersey.

How long have you been writing romance?

About ten years, probably more. I was delighted to discover earlier this year that I was a Finalist in the Romantic Novelists’ Association Joan Hessayon Award 2015 with my first book in the Jersey Scene series, A Jersey Kiss.

What is your favourite sub-genre of romance?

I love most romance, but especially chick lit.

Tell us about the Island of Jersey.

Jersey is the largest island in the Channel Islands, a group of islands that sit between England and France. We’re much closer to France though – only 15 miles of the French coast – and I can see the lights in France from my bedroom window at night. Most of the road signs are in French and there are many leafy lanes and a few hundred beaches and coves. The beaches are open with golden white sand on the south and east, and on the west and north of the island it’s a little more dramatic with cliffs towering over the sea. The island was occupied by the Nazis in WW2 and there are many bunkers and concrete towers. All along the five mile beach there’s part of the Atlantic Wall, which they built as a defence. It’s very pretty here and during the fifties and sixties Jersey was known as the Honeymoon Island.

Introduce us to the main characters.

The main characters are Izzy Le Lievre and her best friend and business partner, Jess Moon. They run an event planning company but their favourite part of their business is putting on vintage parties/weddings for the locals. Izzy’s mum is a Swedish sculptor and her brother is a local surfing champ. Izzy lives with Jess in a cottage that Jess inherited from her grandmother who brought her up. The cottage is nestled by the tiny harbour at Rozel, another beautiful part of the island.

What large event are the girls initially preparing for?

They’ve taken on a huge wedding party. The booking is for the three busiest weeks of the summer. It is for the spoilt daughter of one of the local dignitaries who wants them to set up and cater for the parties leading up to her wedding day and her wedding reception, all being held at the family manor house. The girls are hoping to make contacts for further bookings from the guests coming to the island for the grand occasion.

Where are the girls invited to go?

On a yacht cruising along the South of France with eight other people, including Ed, who they soon realize they know very little about.

Why do the girls have to cut and run from the boat trip?

Because they have the chance to cover their losses with a wedding party who desperately need to find a new location and someone to organize their reception when the one they’d planned goes terribly wrong.

Tell us what you are working on at the moment.

I’m working on the fourth book in the series, A Jersey Bombshell. It’s about Daisy, a girl who met and fell in love with someone who she has to leave behind due to family circumstances. Two years later she’s working at a beautiful Art Deco hotel in Jersey and he walks in… Each book in my Jersey Scene series is a stand-alone story, but characters from each story pop up in all the books.

Romancing September #RomancingSeptember – Day 24

Romance September 2014 cover (1)

Welcome to Day 24 of Romancing September Across The World Tour. Today our guest is Georgina Troy. Catch up with more from Georgina in a few hours with the second part of our tour when Stephanie chats to her.

Where is your home town?

My home town is St Ouen on the north-west coast of the island of Jersey, 15 miles off the coast of France.

How long have you been writing romance?

About eight years.

What is your favourite sub-genre of romance?

Contemporary women’s fiction

What does Bea do for a living?

She’s a trust officer looking after the private trusts and companies of wealthy clients.

Tell us what she does after losing her god-mother and discovering her husband’s affair.

She employs a grumpy, but handsome builder, Luke, to help with the renovations of the rundown, twenties home she’s inherited from her godmother and tries to find a way to keep the house.

Tell us about the mysterious legacy her aunt (god-mother) left her in her Will.

All she knows about it is the name, A Jersey Kiss, but she has no idea what it can be, so finding it proves more difficult than she expected.

Who comes back into her life?

Tom is an ex-boyfriend, who she went out with when they were both at university, he returns to the island and is her new Manager at work. Meeting up with him causes Bea all sorts of problems.

You recently signed a four-book deal with Accent Press, can you tell us more about the four books?

They are a series of stand-alone romances set in Jersey. Book 1 – A Jersey Kiss – is out today! The second book, A Jersey Affair will be out soon and the other two following on in the next few months.

Tell us what you are working on at the moment.

I’m drafting the third book in the series, A Jersey Dreamboat. It’s the story of two girls, Izzy and Jessica, whose business hiring out vintage crockery and linen, is put in jeopardy. Their entire collection is booked for a two-week period at the busiest time of the year for the society wedding of a wealthy local man’s daughter. Unfortunately, she elopes just before the wedding, too late for them to find replacement bookings and recoup their losses. Izzy’s brother introduces them to two French brothers and they invite the girls to make up the numbers on a three-week cruise to the South of France. Izzy and Jess arrive at the brothers’ family home to meet the rest of the group only to discover they live in a chateau and the brothers are Counts. And then the fun begins…
