Characters To Fall In Love With. Rosie’s #Bookreview of #ContemporaryRomance Running On Diesel by @Melissa_Foster

Running on Diesel (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, #8)Running on Diesel by Melissa Foster

4.5 stars

Running on Diesel is book #8 of The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor contemporary romance series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but I feel that they are best read in order.

The is the story of Desmond ‘Diesel Black’, a nomadic member of the Dark Knights motorcycle club. The club is made up of keen bikers who help their communities. Diesel has been drawn to waitress Tracey Kline since he first met her, but she was running from an abusive relationship and needed space to rebuild her life.

Tracey has worked as a waitress at the Whiskey’s bar for two years. Recently customers have been scared from her tables by an over-attentive Diesel; she’s had enough of the caveman act from Diesel and she intends to tell him to back off, but does she really mean it? Why is he the man filling her dreams?

In a story where secrets are revealed and the past comes back to haunt Diesel, these two people form a bond and find lost families. It was great to see Diesel change from someone who needed the freedom of the open road to a man who wanted to put down family roots. I was also pleased to see how Tracey grew in confidence and came back fighting after a traumatic experience. I do enjoy the ethos of the Dark Knights and the Whiskey family is definitely one to fall in love with.

‘It takes an acorn and a determined man’. Rosie’s #Bookreview of #ContemporaryRomance Sweet, Sexy Heart by @Melissa_Foster

Sweet, Sexy Heart (The Bradens & Montgomerys: Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls #9)Sweet, Sexy Heart by Melissa Foster

5 stars

Sweet, Sexy Heart is a stand-alone contemporary romance and it is also part of The Bradens & Montgomerys: Pleasant Hill – Oak Falls series.

Amber Montgomery, a bookshop owner, suffers from epilepsy, but she has it under control and leads a quiet small-town life. Dash Pennington is a high profile ex-footballer who is launching his debut novel; he’s starting his book tour at Amber’s shop, but arrives in town early to have a break from his schedule.

Amber may have a crush on Dash, but he’s not someone she would really get involved with.  Dash’s bad boy footballer reputation precedes him, and he’s warned him off Amber, but the image that fans have of him aren’t the real Dash; he’s loyal and thoughtful, putting family and friends first.

It takes an acorn and a determined man to break down Amber’s barriers, but will Dash’s busy lifestyle and her stay-at-home dreams ever find a compromise?

This is a very sweet loving (and hot) romance, which tackles epilepsy in an open way without it feeling like a lecture. I enjoyed the small-town setting and how close and supportive Amber’s family are. There are secondary characters from other books for those who follow the series, or for new readers, those characters may pique their interest enough to pick up and fall in love with more of Foster’s couples.

Desc 1

Amber Montgomery is perfectly happy with her quiet life. She loves running her bookstore, taking long walks with Reno, her Labrador retriever seizure-response dog, and spending time with her close-knit family. She’s never needed thrills the way some of her sisters have. In an effort to control her epilepsy, she tries to avoid anything that creates too much excitement or stress—including relationships. When Amber hosts a book signing for famed-athlete-turned-author Dash Pennington, he’s everything she’s spent her life avoiding: loud, aggressive, and far too handsome, as proven by the hordes of women who surround him everywhere he goes. Amber can’t ignore the sparks flying between her and Dash, but this is a no-brainer for her: Ignore their chemistry and hold her breath until he leaves town.

Dash Pennington has spent his life running. Running the ball in for a touchdown, running from town to town to appease his public relations reps, and for years, running into the arms of too many women to count. He’s also an expert at protecting—his reputation, his family, and lately, his sanity. But he’s ready to make a change. When he comes to the sleepy little town of Oak Falls, Virginia, and witnesses the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen living the life he craves, she refuses to have anything to do with him. But now that Dash has found the one thing he doesn’t want to run from, he’ll stop at nothing to win her over.

Rosie’s #Bookreview Of #ContemporaryRomance THE GRITTY TRUTH by @Melissa_Foster

The Gritty Truth (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, #7)The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster

4.5 stars

When Quincy Gritt was a teenager he was introduced to drugs; he lost six years of his life to his addiction. He eventually found a strong enough reason to stop taking them and now he’s been clean for two years.

Determined to be a better person, Quincy now hosts narcotics anonymous meetings, mentors a fellow addict who is in recovery, and holds down a regular job. He also has a family support system to give him lots of reasons to stay clean.

Roni Westcott is a dance teacher who recently lost her Grandmother, her last living relative. It took time to grieve but she had the support of her best friend Angela and the regular texts from a sexy admirer.

Roni and Quincy have been text friends for a while but Quincy is determined to take it further. However, he knows that he will have to be honest about his past if he wants to keep his girl, and he fears that the honesty will be the reason that she walks away.

This was a sweet romance which also dealt with the darker side of drug abuse. I thought that the serious sub-theme was written well while the main focus is on the romance between Roni and Quincy. I do enjoy reading all the about the Whiskeys and their extended family, and the work that the Dark Knights do for their community is always commendable. I shall look forward to the next book in the series.

Recovering drug addict Quincy Gritt has fought his demons. He’s confessed to his crimes and conquered his addictions. He’s finally ready to go after sweet, sexy Roni, the gorgeous brunette who won a date with him in a charity auction five months ago and has been putting him off, and driving him wild, ever since.

Dancer Veronica “Roni” Wescott worked hard to escape the seedy area where she was raised and followed her dreams to Julliard, only to have them shattered in the blink of an eye. She fought hard and regained her footing, but then the rug was pulled out from under her again when the grandmother who raised her passed away, leaving Roni feeling adrift in a world she knows very little about outside of dance. Quincy pulls out all the stops, determined to prove that their friendship is only the beginning of what’s destined to be so much more. Romantic nights lead to smoldering passion and a deep connection too strong to be denied. Rosie’s #Bookreview of #ContemporaryRomance TRU BLUE by @Melissa_Foster

Tru Blue (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, #1)Tru Blue by Melissa Foster

5 stars

Tru Blue is a contemporary romance and is book one of The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series. This is the story of mechanic Truman Gritt, who went to prison to save his brother; now, six months after his release, his brother needs him again.

Called to a crack house in a seedy area, Truman finds his brother Quincy and two children―a baby and a toddler, starving and sitting in soiled clothing. Truman rescues the children, letting Quincy know that he’ll be there for him too, but he’s got to get off the drugs first.

Truman vows to take care of his family himself, which is why he’s in the supermarket in the dead of night, confused over which nappies and baby formula to buy, with the two small children.  Gemma Wright, another late-night shopper, offers practical help. In a show of gratitude Truman offers to mend Gemma’s car, earlier dented in a hit and run.

A lovely romantic story about a man willing to take on two children and raise them as his own while battling with his own demons from the past. We are shown glimpses of Truman’s artistic side, and his artwork was described so vividly that it felt real, and I wanted to see it. The romance between Truman and Gemma is perfect and the two children are adorable. If you enjoy romance with well-written characters and you want to fall in love with a new series, then I recommend getting this book today.

The main character of this book, Becky, is of those people that has their finger on the pulse of the world around them. One that can plan and deftly manipulate situations around them, pick up on subtle nuances that others miss and act before anyone else realizes there may even be a problem. A master mind.

In my past readings I have found master minds to be either criminal in nature or Holmesian. Never have I found a master mind to be a single parent, working as a life coach and when those jobs run dry working in the background at the fanciest weddings to make sure everything runs smoothly. But Becky makes it work. In fact she makes everything work.

But, alas, like all masterminds, sleuth, criminal and otherwise, she has her own blind spot. And, as I’m sure you could guess from the title and cover alone, it’s her personal love life. And that is what makes the book a sweet romance that is just a little different than any other I have I read.

Would I recommend it? Also she eats a lot of cake.

(That means yes!)

Book description

There’s no problem Becky Watson can’t fix. Except her own love life…

Struggling single mother Becky Watson longs to revive her career as a life-fixer, working miracles to solve her clients’ problems, no matter how big or small. Since the birth of her two-year-old son she has been stuck preventing wedding fiascos for the richest and rudest residents of the Comptons, a charming, leafy area of southern England known for its artistic heritage.

So when semi-reclusive local artist Charlie Handren reluctantly hires Becky to fix his six-year creative slump, she’s delighted to set him up with a come-back exhibition and Rachel Stone, the woman of his dreams.

Though they get off to a rocky start, Becky and Charlie soon become close. But as the beautiful Rachel becomes Charlie’s muse, Becky is forced to wonder: will giving Charlie everything he wants mean giving up her own happily ever after?

A heart-warming, uplifting romance served with a generous slice of cake.

Rosie’s #Bookreview Of #ContemporaryRomance TEMPTED BY LOVE (The Steeles Of Silver Island #1) by @Melissa_Foster

Tempted by Love (The Steeles at Silver Island, #1)Tempted by Love by Melissa Foster

5 stars

Tempted By Love is a contemporary romance and the first book in The Steeles Of Silver Island series.

Single mother Daphne and her daughter live on Cape Cod where Daphne works at a resort. Jock Steele is a man with a troubled past, but Daphne’s two-year-old daughter Hadley adores him. However, Jock freezes whenever Hadley approaches him. It’s not just Hadley, it’s any young child, including his own niece. A traumatic past has Jock’s emotions locked down tightly, but he can’t stop thinking about Daphne – but if he wants her in his life, he must overcome his fear of his past.

This book has two lovely settings, Cape Cod and Silver Island. The characters joke about getting island fever and not wanting to leave but it sounded an idyllic place to live. The romance between Jock and Daphne is intense while Hadley’s role is very sweet. I liked how she called him Dock because she couldn’t pronounce J.

Jock’s backstory has some very sad moments, but it also has hope and I thought the way that he worked through his issues was very inspiring. I also enjoyed meeting lots of other members of the Steele family and I can image that they will all be wanting to tell us their own romantic stories in the near future.

Jack “Jock” Steele

Enjoy heart-meltingly beautiful and toe-curlingly sexy romance in Tempted by Love, an emotionally riveting story about a man who has lost it all and carries a torturous secret, a divorced single mother who has everything to lose, and the little girl who helps them heal. Fall in love on the sandy shores of Silver Island, home to coffee shops, boat races, midnight rendezvous, and the sexy, sharp-witted Steeles.

In TEMPTED BY LOVE…
Years ago, bestselling author Jack “Jock” Steele lost his girlfriend and baby in a horrific accident that drove a wedge between Jock and his family, keeping him from sharing a devastating secret. An aging philanthropist saved him from the brink of despair, and for a decade Jock cared for his ailing friend who became his family. Now his friend has passed away and left him a fortune—on the condition that he publishes another book. Jock is floundering, unsure how to rebuild the life he’d walked away from, much less find his muse, have another relationship with a woman, or even think about having a family of his own. But he can’t get his sweet, sexy new friend, single-mother Daphne Zablonski out of his head, and her adorable toddler must know something he doesn’t, because she wraps her tiny fingers around his heart and won’t let go.

Daphne has been through the wringer with her ex-husband and doesn’t believe true love is in the cards for her. Friends she can handle, but letting a man see her mom bod naked? Especially someone as strikingly handsome and unbelievably sexy as Jock? No, thank you. Besides, she has a toddler to chase after and enough fictional boyfriends to fill her lonely nights. If only her book boyfriends could make her body tingle the way one look from her mysterious neighbor does.

As Jock and Daphne’s friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then there’s that secret…

Sandra has been reading The Summer Of Taking Chances by Lynne Shelby

Emma is looking forward to playing Juliet in the local amateur dramatic society production when Jake Murray arrives back in South Quay for the summer, ten years after he left to go to drama school, and thoroughly unsettles her. Now a household name, thanks to his role in a successful TV
series, he’s taking the summer off, away from the media spotlight, and catching up with his old school friends.

At the beginning of The Summer of Taking Chances, Jake comes across as a bit arrogant and full of himself; not very likeable really. But we get to see him through Emma’s eyes, and it’s obvious they have history. It was Emma who first got Jake interested in acting at the school drama club. As the
story is told from Emma’s point of view, their previous relationship is gradually revealed in a series of flashbacks, and it becomes clear both what he means to her and why she does not entirely trust him now.

The pace is quite slow to begin with as the scene is set, and we are introduced to all the members of the dramatic society. At one point, about halfway through, it looked as if the inevitable happy ending was not possible. From here on it was fascinating reading how Lynne Shelby made it happen in a
believable and natural way.

Both the main characters change for the better by the end of the book, and overcome the obstacles in their path. Jake’s love of the theatre is reignited, as being back where he grew up helps him remember why he loved acting in the first place. Emma comes to see that she gave up on her dream too easily, and that it’s not too late to do something about it.

Most of the action takes place in South Quay, but I enjoyed reading about their trip to London for the opening night of the musical starring Jake’s friends Zac and Julia (from Lynne’s previous book There She Goes). The walks they took along the canal showed a different, and more interesting, part
of London than the usual tourist spots.

This is the third book by Lynne Shelby that I have read, and it does not disappoint. I loved the dialogue between Jake and Emma, where they quote Shakespeare to each other, and the idyllic coastal village setting. The characters are well written and believable, and the eye-catching cover art
should ensure the book reaches a wide audience.

Book description

It’s been ten years since Emma Stevens last laid eyes on Jake Murray. When he left the small seaside village of South Quay to chase the limelight, Emma’s dreams left with him.

Now Emma is content living a quiet and uneventful life in South Quay. It’s far from the life she imagined, but at least her job at the local hotel has helped heal her broken heart.

But when Jake returns home for the summer to escape the spotlight, Emma’s feelings quickly come flooding back. There’s clearly a connection between them, but Jake has damaged her heart once already – will she ever be able to give him a second chance?
