Catching Cassidy is a New Adult romance. The main characters are aged 22, they are past first loves, they have just graduated from college with the rest of their lives in front of them and big decisions and discoveries ahead.
Wyatt Armstrong is at a graduation party with his twin sister Delilah. He’s waiting for his best friend to show up. Cassidy Lowell, has been Wyatt’s best friend for 17yrs. She’s being messed around by her boyfriend and Wyatt is once again wondering why she’s still with that loser. Wyatt’s very protective of Delilah and Cassidy, they’ve grown up together and now the doors are open for the rest of their lives. Cassidy hopes to get an accounting job in New York.
News comes of a fatal car accident and everything changes. Cassidy stands by Wyatt and Delilah, they take each day one at a time. With memories and emotions running high, the three take off to Harborside and the Armstrong summer house. Here there is a supportive network of friends and The Taproom bar which the family own.
Beneath the surface Cassidy and Wyatt’s relationship is changing, a hot attraction is forming which they fight to deny. Wyatt sees the next step as a risk to their relationship, but he’s so jealous of anyone else who gets close to Cassidy.
This storyline has a good building of relationships, there are sub-characters whose own relationship issues reflect much of the everyday lives of this age group. Wyatt, Delilah and Cassidy all face their own parentless struggles, but the book has several other older people who offer support and guidance. Wyatt works through the question – Just how old do you have to be before you no longer need your parent’s guidance? The book is told between the POV of both Cassidy and Wyatt at times it was hard to know which one was narrating for the first few sentences of each POV change. This is the first in a series of NA books which will have links to her adult Bradens from the Love in Bloom series.
