Chris has been reading Muffy & Valor: A True Story by Karl Beckstrand

Dog-friendly children’s fiction, about the importance of friendship and empathy, this short children’s book, in theory, ticks all the boxes.

The injured Muffy has become scared of interactions, but when another dog is hit by a car, Muffy finds the courage and empathy to help them through the tough times.

This was a very interesting concept of a book with cute photo-type illustrations, and a dyslexic-friendly font. There was a sweet story line with some lovely life lessons. And yet the story felt a little preachy, and I think the “true story” element derailed the writing into something less strong than it could have been.

Book description
