Secrets of a Highland Warrior (The Lochmore Legacy, #4)Secrets of a Highland Warrior by Nicole Locke

4 stars

Secrets Of A Highland Warrior is the final book in the Lockmore series of historical romances.

A set of four books, each steps back into history as clues to a mystery are revealed. Book one began in the Victorian era, book two is set during the Regency years, book three in Tudor times, and the final book is set in the medieval period.

So far we have been introduced to a mystical brooch, an empty crypt and a long standing family feud between two clans.

The final tale, but it could also be called the first, is set in 1293. Rory Lockmore is the only child of the current chief of the clan. He has taken men with him to Castle McCrieff, the home of their long-term enemy, to demand the surrender of land granted to them by the new English king.

Instead of the expected battle, Rory is offered a peace treaty and a marriage proposal. Is it a trap or can Rory put an end to the feud between the families?

This book is an enjoyable historical romance, but, more than that, it also provides the answer to the on-going mystery. Each story in the series has added clues and the mystery is concluded in the epilogue by Janet Preston, author of book one (His Convenient Highland Wedding). I’ve enjoyed each of the romances as I’m a fan of this genre; the mystery theme less so. However, I can see this working well as a box set.

Rosie’s #Bookreview #HistoricalRomance A Runaway Bride For The Highlander by @ElisabethHobbes #TuesdayBookBlog

A Runaway Bride for the Highlander (The Lochmore Legacy, #3)A Runaway Bride for the Highlander by Elisabeth Hobbes

4 stars

A Runaway Bride For The Highlander is book three of The Lochmore Legacy historical romances.

Book three is set in 1513. Scotland has just been defeated at the Battle Of Flodden. The title of Earl of Glenarris has now come to Ewan Lockmore. Scotland’s noblemen gather in Stirling for the  crowning of the new king and the re-portioning of lands. Lockmore is granted more lands, but it stirs up old feuds with the neighbouring McCrieff clan.

Marguerite Vallon is engaged to Duncan McCrieff, but she fears a future with him. She’d rather take her chances with his rival Lockmore. Stealing the future bride of a man is underhand, but taking the bride of your enemy will surely open old wounds.

This book reveals a little more of the mystery theme which runs through this series and I’m interested to read the last book to get the whole story. The romance works well and this book could easily be read as a stand-alone as well as in sequence.

Rosie’s #Bookreview Of #RegencyRomance Unlaced By The Highland Duke by @laratemple1 #TuesdayBookBlog

Unlaced by the Highland Duke (The Lochmore Legacy, #2)Unlaced by the Highland Duke by Lara Temple

4.5 stars

Unlaced By The Highland Duke is book two of The Lochmore Legacy historical romances.

Book two is set in 1815. Duke Benneit Lochmore is a widower. He has a lively young son, Jamie, who dreams of becoming an explorer. The Duke is persuaded to give a temporary home to Jo, a distant relative. She will help care for Jamie while the Duke is running his estate and planning his second marriage.

I loved Jo’s Pied Piper style magic that weaved its way into the hearts of all those who lived and worked in the castle. The stories that she created for Jamie were a delight, and I wanted to go exploring for treasures left by mermaids and giants alongside Jamie on the local beaches.

There is plenty of romance too, and links to book one. I did go back to remind myself of how these characters fitted with the first story as they only have a minor role in the outset of the series. I also thought there might have been a little more about the ongoing mystery than there was. However it is still a very good Regency romance and could easily be read as a stand-alone story. Overall, the settings, story and characters ticked plenty of boxes for this genre.
