💕Georgian #Romance Rosie’s #Bookreview of A Counterfeit Wife by @PaullettGolden #TuesdayBookBlog

A Counterfeit Wife (The Sirens, #1)A Counterfeit Wife by Paullett Golden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Counterfeit Wife is book one of The Sirens series of Georgian historical romances.

Set mainly in Yorkshire, this book tells the story of an impoverished Marquis and his rash decision to remedy the problem. The new Lord Pickering has inherited a title but his predecessor left the stately coffers empty. He needs a wife with a large dowry as soon as possible. A swift marriage is arranged with Pickering only meeting Miss Whittington on the eve of their wedding.

Lady Pickering is happy to throw herself into her new life; she’s not what Pickering was expecting at all and she soon wins his heart and is welcomed by the villagers. Repairs to the house, estate and village begin. Lord and Lady Pickering slip into an easy relationship and there is plenty of detail of the era woven cleverly into the plot to keep the reader interested.

Few romances in this genre occur without a problem that needs to be solved and this one is no different; I shan’t say more and spoil the story. However, I just want to say how much I liked this romance, which surprised me in places in the way the characters acted in challenging situations; this made it refreshing to read. Well done!

💕An anthology of historical #romance. Rosie’s #Bookreview of A Touch Of Romance by @PaullettGolden #FridayReads

A Touch of Romance (Romantic Encounters #2)A Touch of Romance by Paullett Golden

4 stars

A Touch Of Romance is an anthology of historical romance. Part one of the book has a story set in Devonshire at the beginning of 1796. Leila Owen meets Jules Knowlton whilst attending a writer’s retreat. The pair bond as they are the only poets. Although they form a good friendship Leila knows that her father is making marriage plans for her with someone who will help advance his own career.

The story mixes Eastern languages and traditions with English ones; Leila’s mother is from India and Leila expects her marriage to be with someone from the East India company. Jules is a professor of languages and a talented poet. He provides a link between Leila’s current life and her possible future.

Although I don’t read poetry, I appreciated its role in this story and the sprinkling of foreign words worked well. The story is fun and has some good secondary characters and it is well-worth a read for fans of this genre.

After the main feature story (which is just shy of 380 pages) there is an added bonus of eleven flash-fiction tales also of a historical romance nature.

Rosie’s #BookReview Of #HistoricalRomance THE HEIR AND THE ENCHANTRESS by @PaullettGolden #TuesdayBookBlog

The Heir and The Enchantress (The Enchantresses, #5)The Heir and The Enchantress by Paullett Golden

4 stars

The Heir And The Enchantress is an historical romance. It is book five of the Enchantress series but could easily be read as a stand alone especially as it can be seen as a prequel to the series.

This is the story of Hazel and Harold, two young people whose fathers drew up a friendly marriage agreement for them when they were children. Now with Harold aged twenty and Hazel seventeen, they haven’t seen each other for years.

Rather than taking a meandering route towards getting wed, they find themselves thrown into an abruptly arranged marriage to save Hazel’s reputation.  Almost strangers, they must get to know each other. However, lingering in the background is a dark cloud of deceit which has the potential to ruin any happiness they might find together.

I have read all of the books in this series and it was a pleasure to finally read Hazel’s story. She plays a part in the other books and has always been a strong likeable character, so I was pleased to read her early years.

This was an easy read and a good way to spend a few hours of escapism.
