Happy Easter! We have a few warm days this weekend to get us all outside.
First photo shows my sunflower seedlings. This was taken after I read (on twitter) about the #SunflowerChallenge2022 It is being run from April 1st to September 30th. There are 30 categories and lots of prizes, but more importantly it is about having fun. I have several varieties all under way. 🌻
Second photo goes to this lovely Iris. I was given these two years ago. Last year they didn’t flower, so I dried them out and re-potted them. It looks like I will get another flower from the group soon. I don’t know the variety, but they seem to be very late flowering.
Third photo goes to the first flower from my Red Campion which is part of my wild flowers for pollinators scheme. 🐝
Next photo is of the dark pink Tulips which are coming into flower. Such a lovely shade of colour.
Fifth photo is this blue Hydrangea, which I secretly bought this week. It’s my husband’s birthday 🎁 this weekend and guess what he’s getting? Just what he always wanted! 👇
Last photo goes to my onion sets which I planted out this week. I actually remembered to log on for #GardensHour (Twitter: Mondays 9-10pm GMT) where this was first posted. I met another great bunch of gardeners via the hashtag.
Club cricket season starts here this weekend, with a friendly match for my son’s home team, so Saturday’s will now be a little busier for a few months.
Thank you for joining me for this #SixOnSaturday post. I hope that you enjoyed it. If you would like to know more about this hashtag, read founder Mr Propagator’s post here also find him on Twitter here.
Happy gardening

A fine collection of sunflower seedlings. Do you find that they transplant well? The tulip is a lovely shade of pink.

Thank you, this will be a bit test for me as I haven’t grown sunflowers for several years. They are in their coir pots still which I hope with help when planting out.

Your sunflowers are off to a good start. They’re one of those plants I really struggle to grow and I don’t know why. That hydrangea is a stunner.

I am rather concerned that when I plant the sunflowers out that the pests might attack them, or I snap them off, they go leggy so quickly. But then some of the varieties have a long way to go to reach full height. I just need to care for the hydrangea, I killed off the last one.

Is that a Dwarf Iris or just a standard sized one in a very big pot. Do do you know the variety? It is stunning. Thanks for sharing, and a Very Happy Easter.

I don’t know the variety, my husband was given it by an aunt two years ago. I think it is stunted! It has taken about six months to reach this stage. I must be doing something wrong. I have some more that I was given at Christmas that aren’t much better. Perhaps I’m not an Irish person.

Thanks for the mention! I had problems with iris last year. I should probably have done what you did.

I’m beginning to wonder if they should be planted into the garden and not pots.

Gorgeous iris! Well done for keep it going. Your sunflowers are much further on than mine, although I did prick them out yesterday. Looking good for lots of prizes. Happy Easter to you!

Thank you, I just have to keep them going once transplanted out. Currently sorting a new flower bed which they will go into.

Really striking iris. Red campion is one of my favourite wild flowers, so pretty. Good luck with your sunflower challenge (for me the challenge is keeping the slugs off them!)

That’s what I’m worried about too.

Spring beauties, I love the pink tulip and am intrigued with the ongoing onion project. I had some wonderful dwarf sunflowers this winter.

Thank you. I’m hoping for a lovely sunflower display.

I think your iris is a dwarf bearded type, which have rhizomes rather than corms and are early summer flowering. It would probably be happier in the ground if you have a sunny, well drained place for it. It’s a very striking form.

Thanks for the tips Jim, I do have well draining soil and I opened up a new flower bed recently which gets lots of sun, So I shall transfer them there.

Happy Easter, Rosie – and enjoy your gardening.
Missing all my daffodils and perennials from New Jersey. We moved to a retirement community in California, and there are plants galore, but they are no long just mine – as I could no longer care for them. The ones here are beautiful – but I hope the new owners are taking care of mine.

Thank you Alicia, that’s a big change for you from one side of the States to the other.

It was. This side has daffodils – husband bought me a bunch I watched open from skinny spears – but no forsythia!
Best to celebrate what we have instead of mourning what we don’t. Have a beautiful day.

Love your little iris, I think it maybe happier in the ground with its rhizome exposed to the sun. Lucky hubby, getting a nice blue hydrangea for his birthday!

Good luck with your sunflower challenge. I have a few old packets of seeds and I might dig them out and see if they’ll germinate.

Your post is so neatly set out as well as being very colourful. I had a pretty blue hydrangea for Mother’s day. I would like to plant it out soon but, apparently, I should wait until the first set of flowers finish.
