We’ve had some warmer days this week, ending with rain on Friday. Each day it seems that more colours are filling up the flower beds.
The Primulas are featuring this week; a mix of Primroses and Polyanthus for you with photos 1-4. The slugs seem to enjoy munching on the pink variety, so I was lucky to get some of my pictures.
Photo 5 is a very out of focus violet. I blame it on user error with the camera. There are more dotted around the garden which will quite happily spread unsupervised.
Photo 6. Onion sets in the cold frame appear to be doing well. A mix of red and white onions. Last year was my first year growing onions and I found them quite an easy plant to grow as long as they were kept weed free. We are still eating them now.
Thank you for joining me for this #SixOnSaturday post. I hope that you enjoyed it. If you would like to know more about this hashtag, read founder Mr Propagator’s post here also find him on Twitter here.
Happy gardening

Such pretty colours there ❤ We can't really grow primulas here as it is too warm. Your onions look great. After growing some onions in a vehicle-compacted bed this year, making tiny cocktail onions, I've decided to grow them in a proper bed next year!

Thank you. Onions were easy to grow, so hopefully they will work for you too.

Lovely colours and I’m a fan of onions, so it all looks great, especially as it is raining heavily here today. Thanks for the cheerful post, Rosie!

Lucky you to have violets growing around the garden. Do you ever crystalise them for cakes? I’ve got some seed, maybe this year I’ll finally get around to sowing them. Which areas do they do best in, damp shade?

No, I’ve not thought about using them in cooking. I think they will grow in a little pocket in most places.

I love those little seedling violets. The ants move the seeds around the garden, and they come up near ants’ nests.

Oh do they? That’s interesting to know.

Such pretty colours in your primroses and /polyanthus, they are such a wonderful family of plants, I’m so glad that they want to grow in my heavy clay soil!

Thank you. I think that they are happy in many different soil types. I am on heath land here.

That pink, white and yellow primula is lovely. I tried to take a photo of a violet the other day with similar results – I blamed the violet!

Perhaps they are camera shy?

Nice variety of Primulas, I tried onions from seed once – did not work out. Constant garden experimentation!

I have only tried onions grown from sets at the moment. I think growing from seed it much harder.

That was my experience, I should try sets..

Well done on the onion growing. I mainly produce very small ones which are a fiddle to peel. The primula and polyanthus are lovely. I particularly like the yellow one.

Last year was my first experiment, I think I gave them lots of water which may have helped the size.

Lovely! 💐 I’m still posting snow pics on Instagram when I’m there. Though, when that’s over, it’s most likely going to be muddy, slushy, wet weather with some fresh green sprouts here and there–not flowers. Thanks for the cheery post!
