An Unconventional Countess is book one of the Regency Belles Of Bath historical romances.
Annabelle Fortini owns a biscuit shop in Bath where she caters for members of the aristocracy whom she secretly despises. Captain Samuel Delaney is bored, stuck on shore when he would prefer to be at sea. After a shaky start to their friendship, the pair find some interesting common ground, but there is a lot standing in the way of any future potential relationship together that they might want.
A quick easy read; I particularly liked Samuel’s wily Grandmother. There’s also a scene with some lovely sounding water gardens which interested me. The biscuit theme is perhaps a small nod to another baker of similar delights from the area, which made this part of the plot quite plausible.
Overall, a solid start to a new series.
