Assertiveness for Earth Angels: How to Be Loving Instead of Assertiveness for Earth Angels: How to Be Loving Instead of “Too Nice” by Doreen Virtue
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Assertiveness For Earth Angels is a self-help book about spirituality. I’ve recently come across the works of this author and this is the first book I’ve read from her.

Doreen classifies an Earth Angel as someone that is highly sensitive who has been sent to Earth on a particular mission to defuse and reduce conflict. Linking with the belief of human re-incarnation where we return to Earth multiple times to work through past personal conflicts, Doreen believes Earth Angels have their own special instructions. However because of their highly sensitive nature they can often be knocked off path by people they try to rescue, such as drama queens. addicts and energy drainers.

Earth Angels are likely to be obsessed with other people’s happiness, are “Conflict-phobic”, will shoulder other people’s burdens and rarely ask for help. But if they are to achieve their Earth-bound goals then they must learn to protect themselves and learn to be loving without being a pushover.

I enjoyed many of the chapters which encouraged me to look deeply at my own life. Some were of less interest as I felt I had no contact with the people and situations it described, but it is all useful for the future.

  1. Very interesting! I’ve had a time when I’d be sucked into burdensome friendships by people who refused to actually be helped, but demanded time and had constantly a new problem, without actually making any progress. I’ve learned to pull back, and I have Germany to thank for that – for a person who naturally has a hard time saying “No,” Germany can be quite the school 🙂 Yes, I’ve noticed in many self-help books that too many personal examples are given and they end up sounding more like soul-searching by the author, which gets on my nerves – I’m a reader who wants to take something with them, not a therapist when I decide to buy that book. Great review, Rosie!

  3. I love Doreen Virtue and this book is fascinating. I also have a signed copy of Realms of the Earth Angels which I enjoyed. Her Daily Guidance from your Angels book is another must have. 🙂

  4. Very interesting. It reminds me of the Bible verse, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2).
