Our guest today is Terry Tyler and her book The House Of York.

aa a a The House of York

The House of York ~ a contemporary family drama, with a mystery ending, spanning the years 1993 – 2014. Widowed single mum, Lisa Grey, and wealthy businessman, Elias York, are young and madly in love.  A recipe for happiness?  But Lisa is marrying into a complicated family.  Her new sister-in-law doesn’t want to know her.   Middle brother Gabriel’s marriage suffers under a cloud of infidelity and gambling debts, while the youngest, Richard, keeps his dark secrets well hidden—and his wife suffers in silence. Lisa and her mother are bonded by their powerful intuition, but dare not voice their fears about York Towers—or certain members of the family….Love and loss, abduction, incestuous desires and murderous intent form the basis of this compelling saga in which horrors float just beneath the surface, to bring forth a shocking outcome. History lovers may be interested to know that The House of York is loosely based on events during the era of the Wars of the Roses.

Where is your home town?

Geordieland, England (the north east, for those who don’t know)!

What do you like about writing in the mystery genre?

One of the elements I enjoy most about starting a new book is working out the twists in the plot, and setting them up very early on, in such a way that it isn’t at all obvious to the reader, until they think back… I love it when readers tell me that they didn’t have a clue that such-and-such was going to happen, then say, “oh yes, of course, I remember when she said…”, etc. There’s a massive twist in the last three chapters of The House of York; I was pleased that none of the three test readers guessed it.

What sub-genre of mystery does your book fit?

Family drama/romantic suspense.

Where is your book set?

Fictional towns and villages in Buckinghamshire, and a few real places in Northamptonshire, UK.

Can you introduce us to the main characters?

Lisa Grey is a widow and single mother who bumps into wealthy, gorgeous businessman Elias York at the side of the road… she later meets his brothers, hard drinker and gambler, Gabriel, and the enigmatic Richard. Then there’s the anti-social half sister, Megan. Lisa and her mother, Jacquie, are more good-natured and probably nicer people, but I do like Megan; she’s quite sharp and caustic. Later you will meet Elodie, Lisa’s daughter, who is born during Part 1. She’s a bit of a ‘princess’… 🙂

  1. D’you know, I was so busy making the final tweaks to today’s zodiac post (like you, I do them months before!!!) that I had forgotten it was me today – then I thought, oh yeah, it’s the 6th..! Thanks very much indeed for this, Rosie xx 🙂

  2. Because Terry only publishes ebooks, I’ve only read Round and Round. It was so well written though. And she uses words like’hitherto’. Can’t argue with a writer who does that!

    • Hope so, G! xx Many thanks for sharing on FB – there’s not much point in me sharing all these posts on it as I don’t do much with my author page on there, so it doesn’t get many views.

  3. I feel like the gauntlet has been thrown down – Will I be able to guess the massive twist? Looking forward to seeing whether I’m up to the challenge, or not. Actually, I am simply looking forward to reading your latest book, Terry. 🙂

  4. Terry, with the intriguing plot line and characters, I think that your book would make an excellent mini-series! Will add to my Wish List on AZ and share on social media. 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Linda, you’re most kind. And yes, it would – I stop myself from having such fantasies, too frustrating that it can’t be so! (Lizanne Lloyd asked me about who would play who, the other day… even thinking about that was bad enough!!)
