I’ve read one Madeleine Wickham book and I wasn’t that impressed; I think it might have been this one but I’m note sure. I think SK’s chick lit is better, about the only chick lit I will read without a gun to my head (I think the first shopaholic book is terrific). As MW I think she loses her edge – of course she can write well, yes, or she wouldn’t be so popular all over the world, but I remember that I thought she’d combined the daft plotlines that totally work in chick lit, with contemporary fiction, and for me it wasn’t a good mix.

I enjoyed ‘The Tennis Party’ by Madeleine Wickham, and ‘The Wedding Girl’ looks intriguing – I’ll be picking it up.
