Letter R April A to Z Challenge #AtoZChallenge

Day 18 April A to Z Challenge my theme is characters from books I’ve read plus some audience participation.

Letter R is for Rhe Brewster from Death In A Dacron Sail by Noelle Granger.

Death In A Dacron Sail is a Rhe Brewster mystery set in Maine. Rhe is a consultant for the Pequod police and a part-time nurse in the ER unit of the local hospital. The book opens with Rhe and her brother-in-law Chief of Police Sam Brewster being called to a local lobster boat where a finger has been pulled up with the lobster pots. Hospital pathologist Marsh Adams identifies it as a child’s finger and when a body is washed up a few days later an investigation opens up. Rhe is asked to go over old cases of missing children which have never been solved and with the help of the FBI the finger and body are a match to one unsolved mystery.

Trouble follows Rhe, she’s pregnant with her second child, but her relationship with her husband is taking a down turn. Add to this an assault by a drunk whilst she’s at work and a hospital boss who takes a dislike to her, and you have a lot of cross-fire as well as the missing children. A good mystery with more to come from Rhe Brewster in the next book.

For my audience participation I’m asking readers to create book titles using the letter R for the picture below.

A book title and cover picture can often make or break a book sale. Is a book cover eye-catching? Does the book title appeal to the reader?

Have fun creating book titles from my own pictures, you might even think about a genre they could fit.

  1. It seems like everyone had fun thinking up book titles for yesterday’s picture, here they are; Quintessential Steam Traction, Quest of the Quiverer, Quirky Quests, Quintessentially rural, Quite remarkable, Questionable Quality, Quaint contraption and it’s queer question, The Quasi Alien, Quaalude Chronicles, Quirky Tales of Steam and The Quirky Little Tractor.

  2. Rocky Road ~ Betty Baker’s journey from hopeless novice to Master Baker. On the cover she has bravely displayed her first attempt to make bread. The title ‘Rocky Road’ also refers to her pattisserie skills, after the marshmallow/chocolate confection of the same name.

  3. Hi Rosie – I like the sound of Rhe and her investigative situations .. I’m sure it’d be a good read, as too the other stories .. just the right mix of odds and ends that need to be resolved … .that finger: yugh … she sounds a fighter … and will overcome the challenges of a difficult boss … let alone her husband … cheers Hilary

  4. Rockheap Challenge – a memoir of a travelling rock enthusiast who challenged himself to build (and photograph!) a tower of rocks in every country of the world…it gets a little repetitive from around page 10 onwards….probably only finding a niche market this is for the true rock/travel enthusiast 🙂

  5. Thanks for the lovely review, Rosie! For once, I am tapped out of ideas for a title. Maybe because I haven’t had my first cup of coffee yet? THANK YOU again!

  6. Rhe sounds like a fun character. I wish I either had more time in a day to read or could read super-fast; then, I might be able to get to all the books on my mammoth TBR.

  7. First of all, thanks for the shout out! The highlighted book, sounds like one, I’d really enjoy. I’ll have to be on the lookout for it. I’m so beat from my day at work till I just don’t have any imagination left to venture a title based on the photo. But it looks volcanic. I’m gonna venture: Ramlea’s Sacrifice.
