Day 17 April A to Z Challenge, my theme is characters from books I’ve read plus some audience participation.

Letter Q is for Quetzalcoatl from The Obsidian Mirror by K.D Keenan

The Obsidian Mirror is a fantasy surrounding Native American mythology and mixing it with modern day environmental issues. Sierra Carter has just been fired from her job in PR at Black Diamond a company who make silicon conductors.

She then finds herself chosen by mythical Gods to help save the planet. Given magical feathers, a guide called Chaco who can morph into a coyote and befriended by a creature called a Mannegishi, Sierra is taken to meet an ancient God known as Quetzalcoatl. He sends her on a mission to wipe out the evil that Black Diamond is spreading around the world.

I enjoyed learning about the Native American mythology and the healers who helped Sierra.

For my audience participation I’m asking readers to create book titles using the letter Q for the picture below.

A book title and cover picture can often make or break a book sale. Is a book cover eye-catching? Does the book title appeal to the reader?

  8. Great title for a book. It reminds me a little of Game of Thrones as the only thing which can kill the White Walkers is obsidian, because it has been forged by dragons. Love the blend of myth, magic and environmental issues. Thanks for bringing this book to my attention. As for the photo . . . Quintessentially Rural – a self help book for farmers.

  13. Questionable Quality – a study of the rising tide of fraud and fakery within in the traction engine market and a guide on how to avoid being ripped off for the discerning, if small, band of steam enthusiasts. 😉

  15. Quetzalcoatl is a fascinating god that I too posted about but last year. There is such power and inspiration to be found in varied belief systems, as well as in mythology and folklore. The book does indeed sound very interesting and I like the cover too.

  17. Randomly linking to fellow bloggers was a lovely thought for this A TO Z Challenge. I use Lakota myth in THE LAST SHAMAN for an explanation of the 2012 prophesy. And I mix Native American myth with Celtic myth with my THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS. I am part Lakota you see. 🙂

    As for coming up with a book title…I just keeping thinking of book titles that either start with Queen or Quest. I’ll go with the Q from my post then. How about…The Quasar Alien. I guess it would be sci-fi.

  21. That cover is beautiful! I haven’t read anything to do with Native American mythology. I’ll check out the book.

    Book Title – Quaalude Chronicles.
    Non-fiction agricultural digest outlining the growth, manufacture and distribution of this sedative-hypnotic drug from the beginning of time up until present.
    (This was so difficult! I tried…) 🙂
