Letter B The April A to Z Challenge #AtoZChallenge

Welcome to Day 2 of the April A to Z Challenge. I’m blogging about book characters from books I’ve read, then doing some audience participation.

Letter B is for Beynn Firehand who stars in Eyes Of The Enemy by Kelly Hess a YA fantasy series.

Eyes Of the Enemy is the first book in the Blackmyst series of books. A Fantasy series suitable for middle grade children or early teenagers. This is a world with humans who live in Delvengard and the Sorak, a race with magical abilities who live underground. In a village in the Blackmyst forest, twelve year old Beynn Firehand lives with his father.

The villagers have just had the summer solstice celebrations when it is attacked by a band of Sorak rebels who seek Beynn. He escapes to his uncles’, but discovers he has powers of his own, confused and frightened, he discovers that his life has been a lie. The Sorak are seeking Beynn because he is DanShal, a boy of legend who will have great power for his people.

This is a popular style of storyline and should appeal well to this age group of readers. There are a lot of characters with unusual names to get your head around. The story continues in book two.

For my audience participation I’m inviting readers to think up book titles around the letter B for the picture below.

A book title and cover picture can often make or break a book sale. Is a book cover eye-catching? Does the book title appeal to the reader?

Have fun creating book titles from my own pictures, you might even think about a genre they could fit.

  1. Love your theme Rosie, and love that picture 🙂 Can’t for the life of me think of a book title though – that’s something I always find difficult (in fact my daughter thought of the titles of both my books!) so I’ll be interested to see what others come up with.

  2. It is a great theme, Rosie – I’m looking forward to the variety of books.
I often have that same look as the animal in pic – staring gormlessly into space.
    Bewitched and Bewildered?!

  3. A really quick thanks to everyone who dropped by yesterday and had fun with my first book title picture, there were some great suggestions and you can catch up with them all here http://wp.me/p2Eu3u-6sw , a couple of my favourites were; “Afternoon Tea at the Abattoir” – turning the book into quite a sinister twist and “To Tea or Not To Tea” – a Noble offer for Hamlet perhaps?

  4. Thinking hard about a title, Rosie – great fun. This YA novel sounds intriguing and I admire anyone who can write in that genre. Thinking up the names alone must present the author with quite a challenge. My book title would be Benjie, the Naughty Labrador. A children’s book, obvs,

  5. Your A to Z, Rosie is a great idea. I’m way older than Readers of Eyes of the Enemy’s intended for but sounds such a good story I’m intrigued, and I admire writers of fantasy like Kelly Hess. Just don’t have that kind of imagination myself. Love the picture. He looks wistful for a bear. Title: Bear Blue is all I can think of.
Looking forward to the rest of the alphabet.

  7. A serious title – Bearstone Hall. Where darkness and secrets lurk….. I’m thinking this bear sits outside the wrought iron gate at the end of the driveway….

  8. Really enjoying reading your posts and other people’s ideas for book titles. My suggestion today is “Bear in Mind” – a book about the psychology of bear behaviour. Unlikely to be a best-seller, but maybe it’ll be a hit in a niche market.
