There are a great many of us who are daughters-in-law or have a daughter-in-law, so there are lots to relate to in this book. After the wedding of the last daughter-in-law the perfect veneer begins to crack. Doubts move in and relationships suffer, change must be accepted and embraced, yet it causes pain for many of the characters. A wonderful insight into relationships!

My Mum lent me this book last year, I have to admit I’m not normally a fan of Joanna Trollope’s ‘big-country-house-in-Suffolk’ settings but I really loved this one. I live in South Africa, my family are all in the UK and there’s a section in the story about a Mother’s pain when her daughter moves overseas and their lives become distant. I’m sure my Mum wanted me to read this for that reason, this book brought us closer together despite our geographical distance and it will always have a soft spot for me 🙂
